Motorman Chocolate Lager

Brooklyn inspired beer packaging project designed for design firm Freshthrills. Motorman Chocolate Lager was given to all firm clients as a holiday gift in 2010.

About

Each holiday season at Freshthrills, we looked forward to designing a custom gift for our clients. In 2010, our team was obsessed with craft beer and were lucky enough to have aken on a few beer-related clients. We collaborated with local brew master Kelly Taylor of Kelso Of Brooklyn to bottle their rich chocolate lager and created a custom package design.

We found inspiration within Brooklyn's history and decided on branding the beer as Motorman, after the hardworking trolley operators in downtown Brooklyn during the early 1900’s. During the early 1900's, residents commonly rode trolleys operated by a motorman to get around downtown Brooklyn. The Motorman is a perfect symbol of resourcefulness in many ways because they not only conducted and maintained the trolleys, but also maintained the trolley's motor. It’s fair to say they had a tough, but respectable job.

Each gift included a 750mL of lager and four letterpress coasters, along with a note thanking our clients for a great year.
